The Project Pipeline Program is a nationwide program. In New Orleans, we serve students ranging from middle school to seniors. Classes have a teacher representative and students are organized into teams. Students are matched with mentors. The number of mentors placed in a school is determined by the number of students teams.
What is My Commitment?
As a Design Mentor, alongside a teacher, you will be the expert in the classroom working with students to explore the architectural implications of their projects. Our students take a project through all stages of design, investigating through drawing and diagramming, interviews and research, model building and presentation. You will be there to motivate, encourage, advise, and guide.
Where and When Will I Mentor?
You will meet with students on school grounds. Class sessions are typically an hour long. However, you should allow for two hours total (to account for travel, set up, etc.). If your schedule doesn’t allow you to make a weekly commitment, you can co-mentor with another mentor and attend sessions every other week. The day and time will depend on your school’s schedule. We will work with you to match you with a school that meets your availability.
WHat support will I receive?
You will receive a mentor handbook containing all the information you need to get started as well as regular two-week look aheads and online video tutorials throughout the semester. Freddie Dickinson, your Mentor Coordinator, and the rest of the Project Pipeline team will also be available to answer any questions.
Who Can Be A Mentor?
If you have a design, art, engineering, or education background, and you are passionate about what you do, then you can be a mentor.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO MY COMPANY?
BEYOND CONTRIBUTING TO THE PIPELINE OF DESIGN PROFESSIONALS AND COMMUNITY CHANGEMAKERS, PROJECT PIPELINE PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR COMPANY TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, TO ENHANCE YOUR COMPANY IMAGE, AND TO NETWORK WITH OTHER PROFESSIONALS.
